About Us
WHO WE ARE
Stone House Farms is a regenerative farm in Red Oak, North Carolina right outside of Raleigh. We are dedicated to bringing our customers the highest quality grass-fed and grass-finished beef. With over 70 years of combined farming experience, our family knows what it takes to raise a premium product.
BENEFITS OF GRASS-FED BEEF
Stone House Farm’s beef operation was built on the foundation of providing a healthy protein option for our own family. After owner William Wollet experienced a clogged artery, he wanted to make sure that he was providing the highest quality, nutrient dense food for himself and his family. His study into nutrient dense food led him to find the numerous health benefits of grass-fed and grass-finished beef. Grass-fed beef contains fewer calories, supports healthy blood sugar levels, contains electrolytes, provides six times more healthy omega-3 fats, decreases the risk of heart attack, and lowers bad cholesterol levels.
OUR FARM
We are a regenerative farm. This means we take a conservation approach to focus on topsoil regeneration, increased biodiversity, carbon sequestration, climate change mitigation, and strengthening the vitality of natural resources.
One way we do this is by planting a multi-species cover crop in our existing perennial pastures for optimum grazing benefits. When cattle graze on a multi-species cover crop, they are going to be healthier than cattle who did not have access to such a diverse, nutrient rich diet. Cool season covers include fescue, annual rye, cereal rye, ladino clover, purple top turnip, daikon radish, australian winter peas, forage oats, triticale, hairy vetch. Our warm season mix includes crabgrass, bermuda grass, millet, sunflower, sunhemp, cowpeas, plantain, chicory, sudangrass, buckwheat, sweet clover, and forage turnip.
Stone House Farms practices rotational grazing and mob grazing to mimic nature and increase carbon sequestration. By moving cattle daily to a fresh paddock of forge, we greatly enhance the health of the animal... so we don't use any antibiotics on our cattle! We promise that our beef is free of hormones and antibiotics.
Our cattle have access to a wooded area to graze on trees and shrubs, which are rich in phytochemicals. Phytochemicals protect against cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. We also provide free choice minerals to our cattle, which includes an organic kelp and an all-natural Redmond Salt which was mined from an ancient seabed in Utah.
